Kolkata, West Bengal — 13 August 2026: Amid the severe flood crisis unfolding in Assam, the Government of West Bengal has announced a financial assistance package of ₹10 crore to support relief and rehabilitation efforts in the neighbouring state. The announcement was made by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari during a special session of the State Legislative Assembly.

According to officials, the aid amount will be released from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and transferred directly to the Government of Assam to strengthen ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations in the flood-affected regions.

"West Bengal Stands With Assam," Says CM

Addressing the Assembly, CM Adhikari expressed deep concern over the deteriorating flood situation across several districts of Assam, where a large number of people have been displaced and many families have been forced to take shelter in relief camps. He emphasised that West Bengal stands firmly with the people of Assam during this crisis, highlighting the long-standing social, cultural, and spiritual ties between the two states.

Boost for Ongoing Relief Operations

Government agencies, along with several social organisations and volunteer groups, are currently engaged in relief and rehabilitation work across flood-hit Assam. Officials say the ₹10 crore contribution from West Bengal is expected to provide additional resources for delivering relief material and supporting rehabilitation efforts for affected families.

Other States Extend Support Too

West Bengal joins a growing list of Indian states that have announced financial assistance for Assam's flood relief efforts. CM Adhikari noted that a spirit of cooperation among neighbouring states is vital in times of crisis, reaffirming that West Bengal is ready to extend all possible support.
