Under this initiative, SOMS Energy will help eligible homeowners access significant discounts, rebates, or finance options for installing solar battery systems.

Program Overview & Benefits

Substantial cost savings: Under the new federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, households and small businesses may be eligible for a discount of around 30% off the upfront cost of an eligible battery system.
Wide eligibility: The scheme applies to battery systems between 5 kWh and 100 kWh (though rebates/discounts are capped to the first ~50 kWh of usable capacity).

Stacking opportunities: The discount can often be stacked with state-level incentives (where they exist) and other clean energy programs.

No means test: The program is open to all eligible property owners (homeowners, small businesses, community facilities), without income testing.
High quality and compliance: All battery systems must meet approved technical, warranty, and installation standards under the scheme.

Why This Matters Now

Victoria’s state battery loan scheme (through Solar Victoria) has wound down, with applications for new interest-free battery loans closing.
The federal rebate program is set to take effect from 1 July 2025, making this the ideal time for households to plan their battery upgrade.
