Sense Group Expands Warehouse Security Camera Installation as Cargo Theft Hits Record Highs Across the GTA

With Ontario logging the lion's share of Canada's cargo theft in 2025, the GTA installer brings AI-powered surveillance, license plate recognition, and 24/7 monitoring to warehouses and distribution centres

If you run a warehouse in the GTA, the odds are no longer in your favour. Thieves have made Ontario ground zero for freight crime, and Sense Group, a Greater Toronto Area commercial security company, is expanding its warehouse security camera installation service to help local operators fight back.

The scale of the problem is hard to overstate. More than 1,600 cargo theft cases were reported in Ontario in 2025, with the Greater Toronto Area serving as the primary hotspot. Ontario accounted for 65% of all recorded cargo theft incidents in Canada that year, most of it concentrated around the GTA. The recovery odds are grim, too. The national cargo recovery rate slid to just 9% last year, down from 13%. Once a load is gone, it's usually gone for good.

Warehouses are the target

This isn't random smash-and-grab. Peel Region and the GTA keep drawing thieves because of the sheer density of distribution centres, freight terminals, and warehouse clusters. Across the industry, warehouses and distribution centres are the most targeted sites for theft. Grocery loads top the list of stolen goods, followed by automotive parts and building materials like copper.

"I've walked into warehouses the morning after a hit," said Vitaly Sukhina, founder of Sense Group. "The owner points at a camera in the corner and says 'we had footage.' Then we play it back and it's a grainy blur at the one angle that matters. That's the gap we fix. A camera you can't identify a plate or a face from isn't security. It's decoration."
What we install and why it matters

Sense Group plans, mounts, wires, and tests commercial surveillance systems built for large sites. Our warehouse setups pull from camera platforms we're certified on, including Axis, Verkada, Ubiquiti, and UNV, matched to the property rather than sold off a shelf.

The features warehouse owners actually ask for:

AI video analytics that flag movement in a yard or dock after hours and send an alert before a loss, not after. License plate recognition at gates and entrances, so every truck and trailer that rolls in is on record. Cloud and remote monitoring, letting a manager check any camera live from a phone, whether they're on site or off. High-resolution night vision that reads a plate or a face in a dark loading bay. And weather-rated cameras that hold up through an Ontario winter outdoors.

Paired with an access control system, the footage lines up with a log of exactly who badged through which door and when. For an insurance claim or a police report, that timeline is gold.

We come to your site

Sense Group is a service-area business. Our technicians drive to the warehouse, study the blind spots, the docks, the yard, and the perimeter, then design coverage that leaves no dark corners. We serve Toronto, Mississauga, Vaughan, Barrie, King City, Hamilton, Oshawa, and warehouse hubs across Ontario, including Peel Region. Every commercial camera package carries a three-year warranty and support from our in-house team.

"A warehouse owner shouldn't have to become a security expert overnight," Sukhina said. "That's our job. Tell us where the trucks come in and what's worth protecting, and we'll build the system. Then you can go back to running the business."
