From closing a significant internal funding round to forging landmark partnerships with OpenAI and MIT Open Learning, upGrad is rapidly repositioning itself as the definitive platform where ambition meets applied intelligence.
upGrad secured Rs 360 crore in an internal funding round led by founder Ronnie Screwvala, earmarking the capital to accelerate AI-powered learning, workforce training, and broader market consolidation. The raise reflects continued investor confidence and signals that upGrad is operating with a long-term, high-conviction lens even as the broader edtech landscape continues to evolve.
At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, upGrad announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI, becoming the first Indian skilling platform to embed OpenAI's latest tools directly into its learning programs. Learners will gain access to ChatGPT Foundations certifications, Engineering and Data Labs powered by OpenAI Codex, and ChatGPT Atlas for research and workflow automation.
Ronnie Screwvala, Co-founder and Chairperson, upGrad, said, "Real transformation happens when access meets ambition. The more we invest in capability at scale, the faster India moves from being a talent supplier to a product and innovation hub."
On the enterprise front, upGrad Enterprise partnered with LTM, a Larsen and Toubro Group company, to deploy MIT Open Learning's Universal AI program across LTM's workforce. The self-paced program covers 16 foundational and domain-specific AI modules and is accessible to both technical and non-technical employees, with credentials awarded by MIT Open Learning upon completion.
Together, these developments reflect upGrad's conviction that skilling at scale and embedding frontier AI into learning are not separate goals but the same mission pursued from different angles.
